Using a computational method based on static equilibrium, it is possible to independently measure the rod's orientation and tip position during the movement trial, using force platform derived data exclusively, and to compare these estimates to rod orientation and tip position estimates derived exclusively from the motion capture component. The degree of spatial and temporal agreement between these two sets of data provides an assessment of the joint working status of the kinetic and kinematic systems. A small number of variable are calculated and presented for inspection—these enable the user to detect the presence of errors from a large number of potential sources.

Coming Soon:

CalTester Version 4.0 will incoproate the functionality of FPLOC to locate force platform corners, and more importantly will allow editing of the Force Platform parameters in the C3D file.

CalTester™

C-Motion's CalTester™ verifies the spatial synchronization of your motion capture systems and force platforms. It was developed because accurate and reliable kinematics and kinetics data are essential to movement analysis data for clinical and research purposes. The CalTester should be used before each motion capture session to validate laboratory settings.

Proper laboratory calibration includes:

  • Accurate determination of the positions of the force platform(s)
  • Correct setting of force platform parameters such as analog scale factors and origin offsets.
Errors in the parameter settings or calibration measurements lead to incorrect values for kinematic and/or kinetic variables calculated during a movement analysis.

CalTester is a laboratory Quality Assurance tool that provides confirmation of the calibration and spatial synchronization of a laboratory's motion and force measurement systems. This simple test takes only a few minutes, could be performed prior to any data collection, and provides reassurance that your data collection is sound. CalTester is an essential tool for laboratories that:

  • Move cameras and/or Move force platforms regularly
  • Have amplifier switches that can be easily bumped,
  • Have settings that are regularly changed,
  • Have students or unsupervised visitors in the laboratory.
The software is used in conjunction with a precision mechanical testing device. The design of the mechanical testing device allows a force to be applied to the surface of the force platform without any applied moment.

"A proposed test to support the clinical movement analysis laboratory accreditation process," has been published In Gait and Posture that uses the CalTester device as the means to ensure accreditation.
